Congratulations to our JMS Mock Trial Team for winning 2nd place in the Constitutional Rights Foundation Annual Mock Trial Program. The program was created to help students acquire a working knowledge of our judicial system, develop analytical abilities and communication skills, and gain an understanding of their obligations and responsibilities as participating members of our society. This years team, consisting of 29 middle school students, competed against 53 schools in Los Angeles County to finish in 2nd place.  Jefferson Middle School was the only public school in the finals amongst the top 8 schools in the competition.  Under the incredible leadership of program director, George Carney, our students were well prepared once again to represent the district.  SEF is proud to support such an amazing program involving both middle and high school students!!

In November, with the help and support of approximately 170 volunteers, SEF held its 3rd Annual Phone A Thon.  This years program was an incredible success securing over $16,000 in pledges from the families in our school communities.  The funds raised will go towards our current "Fund the Gap" Campaign in support of program planning for the 2013-2014 school year.  We would like to thank the many volunteers, including school board members, district administrators/staff, PTAs/PEPs/PTSA presidents, teachers, principals, and over 100 student volunteers from Interact, FBLA, Speech & Debate, Mock Trial and more) who selflessly gave of their time, talent and financial support on behalf of all of the students in the district.  Together we can make a difference!!

The Hilton San Gabriel has donated a generous $27k to SEF this year. We are once again showing our appreciation by having our 3rd annual Gift Card Happy Hour in the hotel bar on Saturday, January 26th from 5-10pm. Join us for cocktails and nibbles in good company! Please bring a gift card to donate to our SEF-A-Palooza benefit on March 13!

Please find a copy of a recent press release distributed to local media outlets on behalf of the San Gabriel Educational Foundation. The release details the receipt of a very generous donation in the amount of $27,000 on 11-30-12 from the Los Angeles/San Gabriel Hilton Hotel.

We are extremely grateful for the continued support that we receive from the Hilton.  Their investment in the foundation has the power to create opportunities through program support truly making a difference in all eight of our exceptional public schools. As we strive to enhance the excellent educational programs that are synonymous with the San Gabriel Unified School District we are fortunate to have strong partnerships with our local businesses.  The Los Angeles/San Gabriel Hilton Hotel is a leading example of how these partnerships not only strengthen our schools but also the conditions and resources within the community.

For Immediate Release

San Gabriel Educational Foundation Receives $27,000 Donation from the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel

Donation will help fund the Foundation’s “Fund the Gap” Campaign during the 2013-2014 Academic Year

(November 30, 2012) – The San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF) announced today that it has received a $27,000 donation from the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel Hotel, located in San Gabriel, California.  This gift marks the third annual significant gift to SEF from the Hilton, with the foundation receiving $78,000 from the Hilton since 2010.

This donation to SEF will help support the Foundation’s “Fund the Gap” Campaign, currently underway.  With a goal of raising $150,000 by June 30, 2013, “Fund the Gap” is targeted to help San Gabriel schools bridge the financial gap created by the state education budget shortfalls.  The Campaign is earmarked to help fund K-3 music instruction, elementary visual arts instruction, performing art curriculum at Jefferson Middle School, college counseling support at Gabrielino High School, and many other vital programs and curriculum at all eight schools in the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD) for the 2013-2014 academic year.  All K-12 students in the District will benefit from the “Fund the Gap” Campaign.

With this donation, the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel will once again become the Event Sponsor for SEF’s upcoming gala dinner, “SEF-apalooza!”  The third annual fundraising dinner and auction will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel, and will feature fine dining, an incredible silent auction, spirited live auction, live music and dancing.  This donation also provides the Hilton with their continued partnership as a Platinum Sponsor in our SEF Business Alliance Program, which provides opportunity for local businesses to partner with SEF to support San Gabriel Unified Schools and promote their business.

Talking about the “Fund the Gap” Campaign, Lori A. Husein, President of the San Gabriel Educational Foundation, said “We are very excited about the generous gift from the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel as it not only gives us the much needed funds to support our programs but it also raises awareness about the importance of partnerships between local businesses and the Foundation to sustain vital programs.”

The San Gabriel Educational Foundation (SEF) is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing quality educational programs for every student in the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD).   We support the SGUSD in preparing its students for their future as productive citizens and lifelong learners.    For more information or if you would like to make a tax deductible donation, please visit our website at www.sef4schools.org.
