As with any board, we have term limits and a few of our board members will be rotating off. We are looking for new board members and hope you may have an interest in joining our board or becoming a Friend of SEF. Please contact Adela Angiuli, our Executive Director, if you are interested in making a difference to SGUSD.

SEF-A-Palooza 2013 is over, but the funds raised will live on in the experiences they provide the students of SGUSD in 2013–2014. A heartfelt thanks is extended to all who volunteered to make this a fun event, those whose sponsorship made the event possible, and the attendees who showed their support for our community by coming out for a night of great fun. THANK YOU!

As the SEF Summer Academy is fast approaching, we believe you will all be excited about an opportunity to provide financial support to our program by means of a donation to our scholarship program. The scholarship program allows SEF to assure that the Summer Academy is affordable to all those who are interested in attending. By making a donation to the scholarship fund we are saying "Welcome" to those who are otherwise unable to attend.
In 2012 SEF provided 34 students with some form of financial assistance which allowed these deserving students the opportunity to attend our well planned program. This year our goal is to increase the number of students we can assist. We can accomplish this goal with help from generous donors like yourself.
We ask that you talk with friends and relatives about making small donations to the scholarship fund. Let them know how their donation will directly touch a students life by giving them the opportunity to attend our program that they may not get otherwise.
Please feel free to give Executive Director Adela Angiuli a call at the office if you should have any questions or would like to discuss the Summer Academy and our Scholarship Program in further detail. Make your contribution today!

Single opportunities will be available starting Wednesday, February 20. Opportunity closes Friday, March 1 2013. A drawing will be done using a random number generator in the SEF office on March 2nd, 2013. Winner will be notified immediately by phone to arrange pickup.  Check out the link for more information:  http://www.sef4schools.org/clippers.html.

The Hilton San Gabriel has donated a generous $27k to SEF this year. We are once again showing our appreciation by having our 3rd annual Gift Card Happy Hour in the hotel bar on Saturday, January 26th from 5-10pm. Join us for cocktails and nibbles in good company! Please bring a gift card to donate to our SEF-A-Palooza benefit on March 13!

Congratulations to our JMS Mock Trial Team for winning 2nd place in the Constitutional Rights Foundation Annual Mock Trial Program. The program was created to help students acquire a working knowledge of our judicial system, develop analytical abilities and communication skills, and gain an understanding of their obligations and responsibilities as participating members of our society. This years team, consisting of 29 middle school students, competed against 53 schools in Los Angeles County to finish in 2nd place.  Jefferson Middle School was the only public school in the finals amongst the top 8 schools in the competition.  Under the incredible leadership of program director, George Carney, our students were well prepared once again to represent the district.  SEF is proud to support such an amazing program involving both middle and high school students!!

In November, with the help and support of approximately 170 volunteers, SEF held its 3rd Annual Phone A Thon.  This years program was an incredible success securing over $16,000 in pledges from the families in our school communities.  The funds raised will go towards our current "Fund the Gap" Campaign in support of program planning for the 2013-2014 school year.  We would like to thank the many volunteers, including school board members, district administrators/staff, PTAs/PEPs/PTSA presidents, teachers, principals, and over 100 student volunteers from Interact, FBLA, Speech & Debate, Mock Trial and more) who selflessly gave of their time, talent and financial support on behalf of all of the students in the district.  Together we can make a difference!!
