The San Gabriel Educational Foundation, or "SEF" as it is known in the community, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing additional funding to the schools and students of the San Gabriel Unified School District. Since its inception in 1986, SEF has donated over $797,000 to support our schools, teachers and students. SEF is the primary fundraising partner of the San Gabriel Unified School District and the only non-profit organization that supports all of our eight schools.
With public school budgets constantly being reduced by the State, there are many educational and enrichment programs that are in danger of having funds reduced or eliminated, including music, arts, and other vital programs that are perceived as being non-essential. SEF believes that our students deserve the best education possible and knows that working together, we can ensure our kids won't go without these courses and programs that are necessary for a complete education. In 2011–12, SEF volunteers raised $100,000 to fund the various programs and curriculum contained in the Music Plus Campaign, supporting all students at our five elementary schools, Jefferson Middle School and Gabrielino and Del Mar High Schools. This year, we're setting our goal at $150,000 to raise funds for the programs and curriculum in the Fund the Gap Campaign for 2012-13. SEF's all-volunteer Board of Directors is comprised of parents from SGUSD schools and community members who want to make a positive difference in our students' education. Board members help fundraise and organize and run our events and programs, including our annual Phone-a-thon, SEF-APALOOZA, Summer Academy, and our afterschool programs such as ELD and Drama at JMS.
